2008 has been a momentous year in the history of the charity. In February supporters undertook a volcano trek in the Western Highlands of Guatemala. Trekkers were asked each to raise £2,600 in sponsorship money. The planning for this trek commenced with fundraising projects as early as November 2006. The trek was fantastically successful – better than we had dared hope – and with the help of The Ultimate Travel Company (based in London) and Via Ventura (based in Antigua, Guatemala) we were able to raise £15,000 towards the building of a new school for our project.

We are organising a charity trek in Guatemala in late February 2008 to raise money for the school for seriously disadvantaged children that we founded some years ago in Guatemala City. We have been renting premises for several years. We now want to purchase our own building. The funds from the trek will help us to do this. We are now accepting applications for the trek so if you are interested in taking part please contact us. We are looking for a maximum of 25 people and are hoping to put together a group of interesting people. Several people are already committed.

Members of the charity made three visits to the school during the past twelve months. What those visits have shown is that Liceo Britanico Guatemalteco has become a place of pivotal importance in the Zone 5 community. With 10 teachers and 110 full-time students our record of success and participation in the academic, cultural and social life of the city has been exemplary. Students have won prizes and awards for the quality of their work and school projects and team performances have gained national recognition.
